Booking conditions

This document is a placeholder template prepared by Savunda for the demo build. Final language must be reviewed by qualified legal counsel before public launch. Last reviewed by counsel: pending.

Your contract for any trip booked through https://savunda.com is with Savunda LLC, registered in USA, operating in Tanzania through licensed local partners. The lead traveller named on the booking is responsible for the conduct of all other travellers in the party and for payment of all sums due.

A booking becomes binding when we issue a written confirmation and we have received your deposit of 25% of the total trip price in cleared funds. Deposit is payable by:

• PayPal (USD), via the secure checkout link in your booking email; or
• Bank transfer in USD to the account we provide on your invoice.

The balance is due 60 days before departure. We will send a reminder 75 days out and an invoice 60 days out. Bookings made fewer than 60 days before departure must be paid in full at the time of booking.

If the balance is not received by the due date, we reserve the right to treat the booking as cancelled and apply the cancellation charges set out in our refund policy.

All prices on https://savunda.com are quoted per person in US dollars (USD), based on the published group sizes. Where you choose to pay in another currency, we use the Wise wholesale rate at the moment we generate your invoice and lock the figure on the invoice itself.

Each quote includes a validUntil date — typically 14 days. After that date, we may re-quote based on current supplier pricing, particularly for park fees, which are set by the Tanzania government and can change without notice.

Unless your specific itinerary says otherwise, every Savunda safari price includes:

• A private 4x4 safari vehicle with pop-up roof and charging points.
• An English-speaking, Tanzania-licensed driver-guide for the duration of the trip.
• All national-park entry fees, concession fees, and government taxes.
• Accommodation at the tier you booked, on a full-board basis (breakfast, lunch and dinner).
• Bottled water in the vehicle each day (typically 1.5 L per person per day).
• All transfers between camps, lodges, parks, and your arrival/departure airports.

The price does not include, unless explicitly stated on your invoice:

• International flights to and from Tanzania.
• Tanzania entry visa and any transit visas.
• Tips for guides, drivers, porters, and lodge staff (see "Tipping" below).
• Travel insurance — mandatory (see below).
• Alcoholic drinks, soft drinks, and laundry at camps and lodges.
• Optional activities such as hot-air balloon flights over the Serengeti, helicopter scenic flights, walking safaris, or cultural visits booked on top of the core itinerary.
• Items of a personal nature: phone calls, mini-bar, spa treatments, souvenirs.

Travel insurance is mandatory for every traveller on every Savunda trip. Your policy must cover, at minimum:

• Emergency medical evacuation by air, with cover of at least USD 100,000 — Tanzania's bush hospitals are good for primary stabilisation but serious cases are flown to Nairobi or Johannesburg.
• Medical treatment including hospitalisation and repatriation.
• Trip cancellation and curtailment at least to the value of your trip.
• Lost or delayed baggage and personal effects.
• For Kilimanjaro climbers, cover for trekking up to 6,000 m (Uhuru Peak is 5,895 m and many standard policies cap at 4,500 m).

We require a copy of your policy schedule with your final payment. Without proof of insurance we may refuse to start the trip and treat the booking as cancelled, with no refund.

Tanzania requires a yellow fever vaccination certificate from travellers arriving from, or transiting through, a country with risk of yellow fever transmission. Carry the original yellow card with your passport.

We strongly recommend you discuss the following with a travel-medicine practitioner at least eight weeks before departure:

• Malaria prophylaxis — northern circuit and Zanzibar are malaria zones. Atovaquone-proguanil ("Malarone") and doxycycline are both effective.
• Routine vaccinations up to date (tetanus, MMR, diphtheria).
• Hepatitis A, typhoid, and consider rabies for longer trips.
• Altitude considerations for Kilimanjaro — discuss acetazolamide and any cardio-respiratory conditions.

COVID-19 protocols evolve. We follow the current published guidance of the Tanzania Ministry of Health and your country of departure.

You must hold a passport valid for at least six months beyond your date of entry into Tanzania, with at least two consecutive blank visa pages.

Most nationalities require a tourist visa. The Tanzania eVisa is available online at the official government portal and typically processes within 10 working days. Obtaining the correct visa is the traveller's responsibility. We will provide a supporting letter on request, but we cannot lodge the application on your behalf. Visa-on-arrival is available for some nationalities at Kilimanjaro International Airport and Julius Nyerere International Airport, but we recommend applying online in advance.

Safari is not a fixed-rail journey. We reserve the right to modify your itinerary where:

• Force majeure events make the original plan impossible — civil unrest, pandemic, natural disaster, government restriction, airline failure.
• Wildlife movement makes another area materially better (the Great Migration is the obvious case — we will follow the herds).
• Road closure, weather, or river-crossing conditions make a planned route unsafe.
• Camp or lodge availability changes after confirmation through no fault of our own.

In any of these cases we will substitute an equivalent or better arrangement at no extra cost, communicate the change as early as possible, and refund any unrecovered cost difference where the substitute is materially cheaper.

Private safaris are operated for any number of travellers from one upwards. Where our published price assumes a particular party size (e.g. "from $X per person, based on four sharing"), splitting the party into smaller vehicles or rooms changes the per-person rate. We will quote any such variation explicitly.

On safari your guide's instructions on safety are not optional. In particular:

• Do not stand up in the vehicle, lean out of the roof hatch, or open the doors in the presence of wildlife.
• Do not leave the vehicle except at designated picnic sites and lodges or with the guide's explicit permission.
• Keep voices low, especially at sightings of cats and other shy animals.
• No flash photography of animals at any time.
• Do not feed wildlife, ever.

On Kilimanjaro your lead guide may turn you back if your oxygen saturation, pulse, or symptoms indicate altitude sickness. This decision is medical, not commercial, and is not subject to refund.

We may refuse to continue a trip — without refund — where a traveller's conduct endangers themselves, other travellers, our staff, or wildlife, or where it brings Savunda into disrepute.

Tell us about dietary needs (vegetarian, vegan, halal, kosher, gluten-free, allergies), mobility considerations, and any chronic medical conditions at the time of booking. Most camps can accommodate dietary requirements with notice; some routes are not suitable for travellers with significant mobility limitations and we will discuss alternatives.

Child minimum-age policies vary by camp and activity — walking safaris and balloon flights typically require children to be 7+, some camps in big-game areas are adult-only.

Tanzania parks operate on principles set out by the Tanzania Wildlife Authority:

• Keep a respectful distance — your guide knows the minimum for each species.
• Off-road driving is prohibited inside most national parks; in conservation areas the rules vary and your guide will follow them.
• Drone photography is prohibited in all Tanzania national parks without an explicit permit from the relevant authority. We do not arrange drone permits as part of standard packages.
• Photographing Maasai or other community members requires their consent; tipping or small payments are customary in tourist areas and the guide will advise.
• Photography of government buildings, military sites, and the president's residences is prohibited.

Tipping is customary and an important part of the income of your guide and crew. We suggest, per traveller:

• Driver-guide on safari: USD 20 to 30 per day.
• Camp or lodge staff (collectively, through the staff-tip box): USD 10 to 15 per day.
• Kilimanjaro climbing crew (lead guide, assistant guides, cook, porters): we provide a tipping envelope at the start of the climb with suggested amounts per role, aligned with KPAP (Kilimanjaro Porter Assistance Project) guidelines. Typical total tip for a 7-day climb is USD 280 to 350 per climber.

Tips can be in cash (USD or Tanzanian shillings, in good condition, no notes older than 2009) or pooled and paid out by us on your behalf — let us know which you prefer.
