Why this day trip
Ngorongoro from Arusha is a long day — 14 hours door-to-door — but it is the only way to see the crater without an overnight. Most guests with a free day plus the desire to see the crater prefer to upgrade to the 3-day safari (Tarangire / Manyara / Ngorongoro). For everyone else, the day trip works.
The trade-off is the timing. The best wildlife window on the crater floor is the first hour after descent — first light, predators finishing the night's kills. Doing the trip from Arusha means descending around 10 a.m., which is past the peak window. You will still see the major species; you may not see the dawn cat activity.
